Rummikub is a classic board game that combines elements of rummy and mahjong. Here’s how it works:

  1. Setup: The game includes numbered tiles in four different colors, along with two jokers. Players shuffle the tiles facedown and each player draws a certain number of tiles to start the game (typically 14 tiles in most versions).
  2. Objective: The goal of Rummikub is to be the first player to play all of your tiles by forming sets and runs on the table. A set is a group of tiles of the same number but different colors, and a run is a group of consecutive numbers of the same color.
  3. Gameplay: Players take turns in clockwise order. On your turn, you can either:
    • Lay down one or more sets or runs from your hand onto the table, as long as the total value of the tiles is at least 30 points and it follows the rules of valid sets and runs.
    • Add tiles to existing sets or runs on the table, as long as you don’t manipulate other players’ sets or runs before your turn.
    • Draw one tile from the pool (face-down tiles not yet drawn) if you can’t or don’t want to play any tiles.
  4. Manipulation: Once tiles are on the table, players can manipulate them by rearranging or adding tiles to existing sets or runs. This adds depth to the strategy of the game, as players can try to manipulate the tiles in a way that benefits them while hindering their opponents.
  5. End of Game: The game ends when one player successfully plays all of their tiles. At this point, that player is declared the winner, and the scores of the remaining players are tallied based on the total value of the tiles left in their hands. The winner earns points equal to the total value of the tiles left in opponents’ hands, and the game is scored over multiple rounds.

Rummikub is a game of strategy, luck, and skillful tile manipulation. It’s suitable for players of all ages and can accommodate 2 to 4 players. Its simple rules make it easy to learn, yet the gameplay offers depth and replayability, making it a beloved classic among board game enthusiasts.
